N2 ends 2017 with Arantia still way on top! - Jan 9, 2018

The first part of the season is over and going into the Christmas break, Arantia Larochette remained unbeaten and are looking more and more like the team to beat in the playoffs for the fight for going up to the Total League. Kordallsteelers are not far behind winning 7 in a row before the break. BC Mess and Telstar have also pretty much secured their places in the playoffs and Grengewald emerges as the strongest team for chances to stay in National 2.

Telstar Hesperange gave Arantia Larochette quite a scare in the final game before Christmas break in Luxembourg's National 2. Telstar dominated in the 2nd quarter and took a 38-32 lead going in to half time. after the 3rd period, Telstar still led by 3 at 55-52. Despite a 13 point effort in the final stanza by Telstar's Prince Foster, Telstar cam up short and lost by 2 to the host Arantia Larochette. Foster ended up with 29 to lead the visitors in scoring. Pierce Cumpstone was held to 11 points, Chris Miller added 16. For Arantia, the league leader, Xavier Pollard led the way with 30 points followed by Ladarius Tab with 27. With the 75-72 home win, Arantia remained unbeaten in 2017.

In Soleuvre, Bryan Jefferson (25 points) fouled out with a few minutes remaining to give Kordallsteelers a chance to capitalise in his absence and the visitors took the nail-biter by one point on the road 97-96 to win their 8th in a row going into Christmas break. Aides Howard-Davis led Zolwer with a 41 point effort in Soleuvre's last chance to make the playoffs. Benni Reichling added 13. For Kordallsteelers, imports Marcus Neal and Antonio Bivens scored 42 and 39 points respectively. Contributing 10 points was Max Schmit. In a strong 2nd place, Kordallsteelers assure their spot in the playoffs.

Still playing with 3 American imports, Black Star took another hit on the chin at Grengewald. John Irwin scored 18, James Fleming scored 26, and Duane Johnson led with 29. Grengewald's Ronald March Jr. led all scorers with 36 and Shaquille Dance threw in 21. Captain Yannick Julien added 20. Grengewald went into the break winning 4 of their last 5 matches. The final score was 90-82.

Bascharage Hedgehogs had no problem with Black Frogs Schieren 74-56, who were still looking for their first win. Stefan Stefanovic led Black Frogs with 20. Steve Mersch was the leader for Bascharage with18 points. Aaron Harrison and William Cardarelli Jr. scored 15 each and Olivier Summer added 10 for the visitors.

In the Playdowns to see who will remain in or go up to the Total League for next season, all teams remained in there same positions as last week. Racing Luxembourg won with only one of their two imports against Telstar. BC Mess got a big win at home against BBC US Hiefenech Heffingen. Kordallsteelers played their worst half of the season but still remain in a good position with the Telstar loss to Racing Luxembourg. TOTAL League - Poule Maintien

BBC Arantia Larochette - AB Contern 83-107

Larochette loses its 5th in a row, but remains 2 points in the lead over Kordallsteelers in the TotalLeague/N2 -Poule Montee. Player of the game, Juwan Howard Jr. (200-F-92, college: Detroit Mercy)., Contern's power forward proved once again to be unstoppable with 46 points, 14 rebounds and 2 steals. Charles Mann (198-G-94, college: Georgia, agency: KMG Sports Management) added 21, Raul Birenbaum 18 and Rene Wolzfeld 12 for the visitors. Larochette now has three of the next four games away from home as they are starting to feel some pressure. They were led by Ladarius Tabb (196-G/F, college: Alabama A&M) 31 points and 14 rebounds. Xavier Pollard (193-G-91, college: Kent St.) notched 24 points,14 rebounds and 9 assists. Derek Wilson added 23 points. Contern's Howard went 12/16 from inside for 75% and 6/11 from there point range for 55% earning him game MVP honors. Contern won this game in the first half as they strode to a 56-40 lead. Larochette played them even the rest of the way 47-47 in the second half. Contern will host BBC US Hiefenech Heffingen next weekend and Larochette must travel to play BC Mess in Mondercange.

BC Mess - BBC US Hiefenech Heffingen 85-83

BC Mess is always dangerous at home in Mondercange where they upended the bottom Total League team BBC US Hiefenech Heffingen in overtime. Down 8 after 3 quarters of play (50-58) BC Mess responded and brought the game to overtime wit ha 26-18 4th quarter. In OT, American guard and game MVP Dylan Talley (196-G-89, college: Nebraska, agency: Octagon Europe), scored 7of 9 to lead the home team to victory. Talley scored 39 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and added 2 steals. Richard Ross Jr. added 14 points and 17 rebounds. Frank Schaeffer added 12 points and 9 rebounds and Noe Melchior finished with 10 points. For BBC US Hiefenech Heffingen, Ryan Logan (201-F-94, college: Stonehill) led the way again with 32 points and 4 assists. Jovonni Schuler had 22. Joel Thesen was the only other BBC US Hiefenech Heffingen player in double figures with 10 points. BBC US Hiefenech Heffingen played with only 7 players. BC Mess won the war on the boards out-rebounding BBC US Hiefenech Heffingen 44-24. Despite the win, BC Mess (12-12) remains in the last spot, still 5 points behind 2nd placed Kordallsteelers in the fight to go up to the Total League for next season. With the loss, BBC US Hiefenech Heffingen (5-19) remains on the bottom of the pool fighting to stay in the Total League with only 29 points, 6 points behind 2nd placed Residence Walferdange. Next Sunday, BBC US Hiefenech Heffingen must travel to Contern where a knockout punch could put them way out of contention. BC Mess will play host again to Larochette who will try to escape with out losing its 6th game in a row. With a win, it would keep BC Mess' hopes alive as there will still be 7 more games to play. Anything could happen.

Kordallsteelers - Residence Walferdange 60-104

Kordallsteelers, playing host to Residence Walferdange stuck around in the first half even winning the 2nd quarter 22-18 as they went into halftime down only 7 wit hopes of yet upending another Total League team. Residence Walferdange came out in the second half and bought energy which the home team could not match and blew Kordallsteelers out in the entire 2nd half 58-21. Kordall steelers remains in 2nd place 2 points behind Larochette. Residence Walferdange (11-13) with a big must win on the road are now still one point behind the leader Racing Luxembourg and have a 2 point lead over Contern in the fight to see who will remain in the Total League. Luxembourg combo guard Kevin Moura won MVP honors with an impressive 33 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. He connected on 6/12 three point attempts and shot 86% (6/7)from 2 point range. Vincent Bailey (201-F-91, college: Lincoln Memorial) tallied 28 points, Oliver Vujakovic dropped 18 points and Vic Heuschling added 13. Jalen Nesbitt (198-SG, college: N.Florida) was held to a season low 8 points.
Kordallsteelers struggled in the 2nd half to move the ball playing their worst half of the season. Coming into this game, they were averaging 99 points per game in the 5 previous matches. Residence Walferdange found a way to slow down the game and their defensive effort cause 18 Kordallsteelers turnovers which they capitalised on. Kordallsteelers were led in scoring by Marcus Neal 25 points, 14 rebounds and 3 steals. Antonio Bivens followed with 24 points and 10 rebounds. To their demise, none of the other Kordallsteelers were really much involved in the game scoring-wise.
Kordallsteelers (17-7) travels Sunday to Hesperange to face Telstar (13-11) in a very important matchup. Residence Walferdange (11-13) will face Racing Luxembourg (12-12) on the road which seems to be the big game of the week in the playdowns.

Telstar Hesperange - Racing Luxembourg Luxembourg 71-76

Racing Luxembourg travelled to Hesperange and played with our their big American centre Aaron Fuller (198-F-89, college: USC, agency: Haylett Sports) and had a big 1st quarter as they coasted to a 5 point road win to remain in the top spot in the play downs. Racing Luxembourg improved to 12-12 and still look to be the favourite to remain in the Total League with 8 games to go. Telstar who played with only 7 players, won the final 3 quarters 58- 56 but it was just quite not enough to get the the important victory. Pierce Cumpstone (203-F-94, college: Stonehill) took MVP donors with 37 points and 7 rebounds. Prince Foster (193-G, college: Angelo St.) added a double double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. No one else added double figures for Telstar (13-11) in this low scoring affair. For Racing Luxembourg, four players shared the balance of scoring with Max Hilger 16, Scott Morton (195-G/F-87, college: Geneseo St.) 15, Sam Ney 14 and Louis Soragna 12. Telstar hosts Kordallsteelers next at home on Sunday and Racing Luxembourg will face Residence Walferdange in Walferdange for the big showdown of the week.

18th and final round of National 2 Qualification. Arantia Still without a loss, Black Frogs without a win.- Jan.22, 2018 (by Paul)

The last round of the National 2 Qualifications were played last weekend. Four teams emerge to the top and will now fight to go up to the Total League for next season. They are: Arantia Larochette 18-0, Kordallsteelers 15-3, Telstar Hesperange 11-7 and BC Mess 10-8. Here are the results of the final round.
Kordallsteelers - Telstar Hesperange 91-89
Third-ranked Telstar Hesperange (11-7) made a dramatic second half comeback against second ranked Kordallsteelers (15-3) in Differdange on Saturday. Kordallsteelers managed to secure a two-point 91-89 victory with Yvan Neves' three pointer at the buzzer. With a comfortable 51-38 halftime lead, the Steelers let up letting Telstar back in the game with a big 3rd quarter. Kordallsteelers (33 points) celebrated at the final buzzer and maintained a strong second place position, just three points behind the leader Arantia (36 points) Telstar Hesperange who lost three of their last four games finishes the qualification round in 3rd place with 29 points. Kordall's Marcus Neal (196-PG-86, college: Delaware St.) led all scorers with 31 points. Antonio Bivins (198-F-92, college: Mass.-Lowell) had 27, followed by Yvan Neves with 12. For Telstar Pierce Cumpstone (203-F-94, college: Stonehill) had 21, Prince Foster (193-G) 19, Tom Donnersbach 17 and Gary Pleimling 13. Next up for Kordallsteelers will a be a trip to Larochette on Saturday, the 3rd of February. Telstar will face BC Mess on the road in Mondercange as the playoffs begin.
Bascharage - Black Star 79-81
Black Star (8-10) grabbed a 2-point victory on the road edging Bascharage (6-12) 81-79. Black Star, who is still playing with three American players, ends the qualification round with a solid series of three victories in a row. Just one game behind Grengewald (9-9) in 7th place. Despite losing 4 games in a row to end the qualification round, Bascharage is still three points ahead of Avanti Mondorf in the standings and is looking like a team that can stay in the league. Three Americans, Duane Johnson (201-G/F-91, college: E.Stroudsburg), 31 points, John Irwin 27 points and James Fleming (185-G-91, college: Ft.Hays State), 17 accounted for 92% of Black Star's scoring which is raising many eyebrows around the Luxembourg basketball world. Flemming hit two big free throws in the final seconds to help Black Star get the win. The only other scorer for Black Star was captain Pol Rodesch's 6 points. Veteran Aaron Harrison was the leader for Bascharage with 29 points. Steve Mersch chipped in with 16 and import Tory Butler added 14. On the first weekend in February, Black Star will host Soleuvre and Bascharage will entertain Mondorf in the N2 Poule Mantien.
Grengewald - Avanti 101-92
There was no surprise in Niederanven where Avanti Mondorf (3-15) was defeated by sixth ranked Grengewald (9-9) 101-92. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Grengewald. Newly promoted Avanti Mondorf finishes the qualification round the ninth position, despite winning 2 of their last four matches. The Greens were led once again by Ronald March Jr., who tallied 32 points, Shaquille Dance added 27, Laurent Majerus and Yannick Julien scored 15 points each. Mondorf's Trent Weaver (202-F/C-94, college: Ohio Dominican) led all scorers 35, Walter Clark (185) added 22 and Pedrag Cavor 12. Kevin Kalmes hit 3 three pointers and a free throw for 10 points as well. Mondorf must travel to Bascharage on February 3rd and Grengewald will grab another victory in Schieren against Black Frogs who are still searching their first win.

BC Mess - Arantia 75-83

Arantia Larochette, the undefeated N2 leader delivered their eighteenth consecutive win last Saturday night. This time they beat 4th ranked BC Mess (10-8) 83-75 in Mondercange. Arantia (18-0) remains the clear favorite to once again promote to the Total League. BC Mess finishes the qualification round with a four game losing streak. They somehow kept the 4th position to find their way into the N2-Total League Playoffs. Xavier Pollard (193-G-91, college: Kent St.), Larochette's lerading scorer remained just that knocking down 35 points and Ladarius Tabb (196-G/F, college: Alabama A&M) wasn't far behind with 27. BC Mess got 30 points from Richard Ross Jr. New import Dylan Talley added 27. BC Mess will play host to Telstar in the first game of the playoffs and Arantia will entertain the Kordallsteelers at Filano gym in Larochette.

Soleuvre had to play two games back to back during the week and won them both. However, they didn't have a wide enough margin of victory to break the tie between them and BC Mess who both finished with a 10-8 record. So, Soleuvre is once again in the playdowns.

Soleuvre - Bascharage 95-89

Soleuvre won by only 6 at home vs Bascharage (6-12). It wasn't enough. They won the 3rd quarter by 7 points in an otherwise very close matchup between the two teams from the south. Bryan Jefferson (201-F-94, college: Mary) was the leader as usual for Soleuvre with 34 points. Aiden Davis-Howard was close with 31. Philippe Kerschen was the only other Soleuvre player in double figures with 10.

Black Frogs - Soleuvre 86-120

Bottom-ranked Black Frogs (0-18) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 120-86 loss to fifth ranked Soleuvre (11-8) in Schieren. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Soleuvre. They end up in fifth place in the qualification round. Black Frogs lost their 18th game in a row. Black Frog's Stefan Stefanovic (193-G-90) score 24 points. Veteran Luxembourg player Felix Hoffmann returned to the squad to add 16 points and Max Brouscher scored 13. Bryan Jefferson knocked down 34 for Soleuvre. Adding 28 was Aiden Davis-Howard and Jerome Kafer (3 from beyond the arc) had one of his best games ever with 20 points. Soleuvre will play at Black Star in the first game of the playdowns and Black Frogs will host the heavily favored Grengewald.

The National 2 qualification round of 18 games has come to an end. Arantia Larochette Undefeated!! - Jan.22, 2018 (by Paul)

It's official! Arantia, Kordallsteelers, Telstar and BC Mess now make the playoffs to see who goes up to the Total League for next season!
It came to a special criteria between the clubs of BC Mess and AS Zolwer, the 4th and 5th place teams tied with a 10-8 record each. They each won their games against each other at home by ten points. The third criteria to determine who would make the playoffs was then used. Looking at the points scored for and points scored against differential, BC Mess won that criteria by a total of 35 points. Therefore, BC Mess makes it and AS Zolwer will be in the playdowns.
The bottom four teams from the Total League were: Contern, Racing, Residence and Heffingen. So now, those eight teams will play each other twice (home and away). All teams keep the points they earned during the qualification round. At the end of these 14 games, the top two teams from the Poule Maintien and the top two teams from the Poule Montee will play next season in the Total League and the other for teams will play next season in National 2.
