WLBL Round 5: Houser 31 points spark Hoops over injury struck Chabibeh, 84-62 - Nov 27, 2017

Monday night Hoops meant business as the out classed Sporting Club Chabibeh 84-62.

Sporting Club Chabibeh has totally been struck with the injury bug after WLBL star guard Kristina King (180-PG-92, college: Richmond) went down. Monday night Sporting Club Chabibeh played with just six players has Aya Halabi (170-G-90), Jennifer Ammoury Maalouf (178-F/G-89) and Kristina King were out of action. To make matters worst new import player was injured in her first day of practice. "We feel we were heading in the right direction", said head coach J.D. Barnes . Of course the injuries hurt but we have to find a way to win basketball games. Coach Hajj did a good job along with his team.

Hoops was again led by star point guard Michaela Houser (170-PG-91, college: Purdue). She finished the game with 31 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Tabatha Richardson-Smith (183-F, college: Seton Hall) added 33 + 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. Shareta Brown (185-C-93, college: Wayne St., MI) continued her dominate play without a fellow import finishing with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Maya El Achkar (179-F-81) added 17 points and 5 rbeounds in the loss. The Sporting Club Chabibeh club didn't stand much of a chance after star guard Kristina King (180-PG-92, college: Richmond) went down two weeks versus Hometmen. They would later add an import guard that would suffer a foot injury in practice Saturday night.

Hoops dominated the game from start to finish. Coach Hajj displayed great defensive pressure on the Sporting Club Chabibeh guards all game. "We wanted to play hard defense and push the ball for fast breaks", said coach Hajj. This is what we like to do and our team did it well. The club now moves to 2-3 in the WLBL.

The Eastern European Women's Basketball league's third Final Four will take place on March 17-18, 2018 at the historic Daugava Sports hall in Riga, Latvia. Antranik Beirut shock the number one ranked team in the WLBL Friday night at home. The home team upset Homenetmen 60-56 giving the top seed their first loss of the season. I was quoted at the start of the season with "Antranik Beirut was the sleeper of the league". The historic ball club continues to improve as the season proceeds. Riyadi set for EEWBL playoffs: Hodges leagues best scorer - Jan.22, 2018  (by Ghassan)

EEWBL News: 1/22/2018 Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut (A2) are now set for the 2017-2018 EEWBL playoffs. The WLBL power club will face the Russian super club Dynamo Moscow (B3) in the elite eight February 8-11. The first game will take place in Moscow, Russia (Feb. 8) and finish in Beirut, Lebanon (Feb. 11). Roneeka Hodges (180-G/F-82, college: Florida St.) continues her great play in the EEWBL.
