2017-18 ''Total League'' N1 Luxembourg Season Preview

Amicale Steinsel

Amicale Steinsel is still the team to beat. They won the double last season (Cup Champion and Total League Champion) and they are the clear favourites to win both titles again in 2017-18. They displayed preseason strength with impressive wins against international competition (Leiden ZZ, . US-player Coleman enters his second year in the country and should get even better than last year playing alongside the experienced McDaniel, who is always a dangerous player. Steinsel can run up the score quickly with a Coleman, Melcher, Picard, Koster and McDaniel starting lineup. However, if they become too complacent, there are some teams capable of beating them on a given night. They must be prepared and ready because each team in the league will be gunning to shoot them down.

The brothers combination of Joe and Pit Biever along with veteran pivot player Alex Rodenbourg, plus 17-year old talent Ben Kovac will lead this team as they try to make the playoffs. Last year's Total League Clancey Rugg is a huge addition. They are very capable of making a run both in the cup and for the championship of the Total League.

Contern will be lead by captain Raul Birenbaum this season. They have high expectations with a goal of reaching the play-offs. With the addition of Tim Steffen (BC Mess and a new experienced Head Coach in Franck Meriguet along with two new talented imports they should be a team to be reckoned with, but time will tell where they will end up.

The Era of Nelson Delgado has come to an end. It will be very difficult to replace the best JICL ever to play in Luxembourg. His cousin however is Jairo Delgado. He must assume the leadership and scoring role that was lost with Nelson's departure. Philippe Gutenkauf, Gilles Polfer, Frederick Gutenkauf and a handful of other young players have to now need to step up if Etzella wants to make the playoffs and make a run at the title. Billy McNutt and Eric Barden return as solid imports and Kresimir Basic returns to Etzella at the helm bringing a new philosophy and a new energy. New arrival Tim Schmit (T71) should add valuable minutes and produce some extra scoring.

Extensions: Import Players: Derrick Barden and Billy McNutt and Assistant Coach Trenton Wurtz
New Arrivals: Coach Kresimir Basic and Tim Schmit (T71)
Departures: Coach Jan Enjebo, Nelson Delgado (retired) Yann Wolff (Amicale Steinsel) and Derek Wilson Jr. (Arantia Larochette)

Come back later when we will cover the other six Total League teams: Musel Pikes, T71 Dudelange, Heffingen, Residence Walferdange, Sparta Bertrange and Racing Luxembourg.
