J.D. Barnes
Lebanon's big summer of international basketball action continues. After the women's team of Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut experiences at the EEWBL last week, the Chabibeh Chiyah squad will have their chance at the a invitational tournament in Barcelona, Spain. Under a new, experienced head coach, with new addition import top players, Chabibeh Sporting Cup heads to Barcelona, Spain for the 2018 Liga Catalana Cup - the Women's tournament - to be held from January 26-28 (2018) at the Paplau Josep Mora Gymnasium in Barcelona. The tournament will serve as crucial practice for Copa Catalana as they prepare for stage two of their season.

"This is a great step for our ladies", said head coach J.D. Barnes . We have to change culture and mindset in Chabibeh. We have the support in great management (Fadi Tabet) that can see our vision for change.

Newly hired American coach J.D. Barnes is no stranger to International FIBA Cups. In 2012 he won a silver medal for Team USA in the 34th Annual Williams Jones Cup. He has over 11 years of professional experience including a short stint with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2014.

"To me its about changing the mindset in Lebanon", said Barnes. I want our ladies to play in Europe, Asia and America. Sky is the limit for the future of our club.

Chabibeh has yet to release their season roster of native talent along with imports.

Unio Esportiva Mataro are the hosting club for this seasons invitation tournament. UE Mataro are favored to be promoted in the Liga Copa Catalana Final Four Champions of 2018. UE Mataro have great balance and impressive American reinforcements with star player Kristina King (180-G/F-92, college: Richmond). King was named All-Swiss LNA All-Import Team last season for Esperance Sportive Pully. She was ranked in the top five scoring list (20.8ppg). Carrie Washington (183-F/C-94, college: Columbus St.) and Marquisha Harris (182-C-93, college: W.Michigan) are the power of the front court for UE Mataro. Last season Harris was named Liga Catalana Import Player of the Year averaging an impressive 13 points and 12 rebounds per contest.

"This will be a great time for us to improve our locals in preparation for the stage two of Copa", said head coach Adria Castejon . We have a great deal of respect for coach Barnes. So to invite Chabibeh to our event was a no brainier.
