Hello basketball world this is Joshua Cuylar (193-G-87) from Long Beach California playing in Germany Oberliga with Osterather TV 1893 which is in the sixth league. The competition isn't very good but it's still opportunity for me to play also with this I coach the youth teams for my club so it has been a real learning experience this season. My playing experience extends to Chile, Romania, China, CBL semi pro back in the States and now Germany. My team currently is in last place in the west division of Oberliga and we are looking to not get relegated this year. It's kind of hard for us because I'm the only import and we had another but he went to another club. Also the club sustained injuries early on in the season and many of the domestic players from last year's team have departed. I like my teammates I just wish that we could come together and practice more we never have enough bodies so we resort to practicing with the second men squad. I was in limbo whether to go back home or continue but my friend who's also playing over here that got me this gig is across the water as well so it's cool to have someone from the same place coming from the same background to spend time with you in another country while away from your family. So as we go into this next weekend I gotta win 5 out of 6 games to keep my team from being dropped a league. Which is a managable task if the team gets on the same page. By the time you read this I should have already played our rivals. Thanks for tuning in you can also follow me on youtube. I have a video blog called Journey of a basketball player and you can see the visuals from this season thank you eurobasket for the opportunity and continue to follow the journey.

The Last Hoo-rah- Mar.20, 2016  (by Joshua)

Here it is the last game of my season in Germany. I never really thought I was going to make it to this point. It has been a long grind and at the end of the tunnel I hope it all has paid off. My last opponent is TG Dusseldorf and we play away at their home gym. Hopefully we can pull off an upset and win this last hoo-rah of a game. Just a recap on the last derby game we lost by 10 points to ETB Essen but statistically I had 28 points and a lil over 10 rebounds solid stats but no win. So... [read more]
Complacency- Mar.11, 2016  (by Joshua)

Any player can get complacent at times when playing overseas professionally. Sometimes we get caught up in just "going through the motions". But some times just going through them isn't enough or effective to play your game. It takes that extra will power or discipline to be a little more than normal. To be good you gotta wanna be good, to be great you gotta wanna be great. I have been a victim of complaceny this season but I'm working on that so I can finish these last two games strong [read more]
Game Day- Feb.28, 2016  (by Joshua)

It's game day and I always tend to get butterflies before I play. I heard it was for the respect of the game. Last week we had a tough loss to the first place team BG Kamp-Linfort. Out of all the games I played in my entire life I have never gotten blown out the way we did that night. Normally I was on the other end blowing teams out but that game kinda summed up our full season. Now I have to put that game behind us and focus at the new task at hand [read more]
