Sometimes it's the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination - Feb 11, 2016

Playing professional basketball was always what I thought would be my last stop. I would graduate college, go over the water for a few years, and then be back home with a number of experiences people only dream of having. Simple as that. Now I am not saying that planning for your life isn't something you should do. People always stress that you should make a list of goals to have an idea of what you want to get out of life and I fully agree, you should have goals and aspirations. It's great to have a plan in motion, but it's funny just how quickly God humbles us and show us His plans are greater than anything we could imagine.

My name is Kristina King (180-G/F-92, college: Richmond). I'm 23 years old and have played in two different countries, Romania and Iceland. I graduated from the University of Richmond with a dual degree and had a pretty successful basketball career, achieving 1,000 points and receiving All-Conference honors. Since graduating, I have been extremely blessed in getting the opportunity to play overseas and experience new cultures all while doing something that I love, play basketball.

So where am I now?

After competing in Taiwan this past summer at the Jones Cup, I decided to come back to GA and play in the WUBA with the GIE Lady Matrix instead of going back overseas to play. Many told me that it was a stupid decision to forego a year overseas, including my agent who was based out in Europe. They said if I stayed home this season, I would never be able to make it back to Europe to play. I can't tell you how nervous I was making that decision to stay. I went back and forth weighing the pros and cons of both options every day, but I knew that if I wanted to accomplish my goals and have a chance to play on a bigger scale; this is what I needed to do. It's all about building your resume and being in the right situation in front of the right people, which is what the WUBA is helping me do. It's only been a few months now and I've already had the opportunity to meet with management in the WNBA and general managers from different countries by playing in the WUBA.

This week the WUBA has been invited to play in the Dominican Republic to play in the Copa Mitchell Cup. For the last two years, the Dominican Republic hasn't participated in women's basketball, except for their national team. This is the first year they are bringing it back and to be invited to play in this event on an international stage is an honor.

I am eager to get back on the court and compete for the chance to bring home a medal. I've played in Europe and Asia, but have never competed in Latin America so I'm excited to see what the style of play is like here.

Games begin Thursday so follow me on the Copa Mitchell Cup site to get updates on how we're doing throughout this week!

Practice makes perfect?- Feb.19, 2016  (by Eurobasket Center)

How many of you grew up hearing that quote? I would bet that every coach in America has said this at some point in time or another. Me, on the other hand, I completely disagree with this statement. Shocking? Maybe to some, but let me explain... I'm not saying you shouldn't practice. That's downright stupid. I've arguably spent more time in the gym than sleeping (okay that might be a bit of an exaggeration but you get the point). However, if you aren't taking your practice as serious as... [read more]
