A new season in Slovak Extraliga Women has started off with five games of first round. In comparison to previous season there are three more teams competing in the league. In spite of the fact that a number of participant increased, the quality of the league hasn't improved dramatically yet. Results of the first games indicates a huge abyss between the best and the worst teams.

Good Angels Kosice - SK Morris Cassovia Kosice 100:30 (14:14, 27:7, 31:4, 28:5)

Good Angels Kosice who are defending champions and are chasing their tenth title in a row faced SK Morris Cassovia Kosice. The young squad of Cassovia was able to keep the pace with their rival just in a first quarter. During the quarter they netted 14 points, but in the following 30 minutes Cassovia dried up and added just 16 points. On the other hand, Good Angels didn't take their foot off the accelerator and managed 100 points. American player with Hungarian passport Allie Quigley (180-G-86, college: De Paul) who had landed in Slovakia just few hours before the match surprised the club with her will to participate in the game. She tallied 6 points. Good Angels had five players on their team to reach double digits Lucia Kupcikova (20), Tijana Krivacevic (14), Zofia Hruscakova (12), Barbora Balintova (176-G-94) (10), Helena Sverrisdottir (175-G-92) (10). On Cassovia' s team, Kulcsarova was the closest to cross 10 points, but the finished the match with 9 on her stats sheet.

MBK Ruzomberok - SBS Ostrava 98-56 (21:18, 24:11, 23:13, 30:14 )
MBK Ruzomberok: Katarina Tetemondova (188-F-88) 23, Veronika Cernakova (175-G-90) 18, Kadidja Andersson (185-PF-80, college: Minnesota) 17
SBS Ostrava: T. Motycakova 19, Tereza Barnetova (183-C-92) 12, Monika Verlikova (182-F-91) 9
MBK Ruzomberok entered the new season with match against a newcomer from Czech Ostrava. Besides Slovak Extraliga, SBS Ostrava also participates in lower Czech league. Although MBK Ruzomberok is in a search of a good center, they had no major difficulties beating their rivals. After a sloppy beginning, the Slovak club was close to reach 100 points. Katarina Tetemondova shined for the hosts with 23 points. Veronika Cernakova, Kadidja Andersson, Sequoia Holmes (185-F-86, agency: Merit Sports, college: UNLV) and Zuzana Brezaniova (171-PG-87) got into double digits too. T. Motycakova notched 19 points for SBS Ostrava

SBK Samorin - ZBK Poprad 97-39 (22:12, 22:8, 32:4, 21:15)

By the end of previous season ZBK Poprad lost their major sponsor and the situation has had a considerable impact on team's roster. At the time, the team is basically built on junior players. SBK Samorin brought in former NT member Martina Gyurcsi who also has experiences from France. Gyurcsi spent previous season in MBK Ruzomberok. Another important player of SBK Samorin is Timea Sujova, who participated in EuroBasket Women Qualification for France 2013. Both players led SBK Samorin towards quite easy victory against ZBK Poprad. Margin of the victory was 58 points. ZBK Poprad was pulled offensively by Marianna Draganovska and Ivancakova.

Piestanske Cajky - BK Petrzalka 88:65 (24:21, 26:14, 24:15, 14:15)

BK Petrzalka: Romana Vynuchalova (192-C/F-86, college: Penn St.) 20, Simona Krivosudska (174-SG-94) 16, Terezia Palenikova (170-G/F-95) 14
Both Piestanske Cajky and BK Petrzalka had their premiere in Slovak Extraliga. The historic victory was grabbed by Piestanske Cajky who gradually warmed up and tamed their opponents 88:65 in front of their own fans. The margin of the victory could have been even greater but Petrzalka had a very valuable player on their team - Romana Vynuchalova, who chipped in 20 points. She also became the best scorer of the match. (Romana Vynuchalova' s former club Zaragoza withdrew from Spanish league due to financial difficulties and the member of Slovak NT is without a contract right now. While searching for a new club, Vynuchalova has joined Petrzalka.) Piestanske Cajky ran away from their guests in the second and third quarter. In scoring, the squad was led by Maria Felixova and Lucia Krc-Turbova who combined for 35 points. Spectators could also saw an interesting clash between sisters Marta and Terezia Palenikova. Terezia, the younger of the sisters, outscored Marta 14:1.

SKBD Rucon Spisska Nova Ves - BKZ Levice 69:49 (23:11, 12:6, 21:17, 13:15)
SNV: Romana Stehlikova (190-C-85) 17, Jade Smith-Williams (170-G-88, college: Cal-Irvine) 13
Levice: Belanska 12, Bacova 12
In their premiere in Slovak Extraliga SKBD Rucon Spisska Nova Ves started in a great style and won the first half by 19 points. After the break Levice moved up a gear but couldn't erase the deficit. The hosts were led mostly by import players Romana Stehlikova and Jade Smith-Williams. Both players got into double digits in scoring. Belanska as well as Bacova grabbed 12 points for Levice. Although SKBD Rucon Spisska Nova Ves had some difficult moments on offence, they claimed a first success in Slovak Extraliga.

MBK Ruzomberok and SBK SBK Samorin advanced to semifinals after the second round of quarterfinals in Slovak Extraliga. Series between Good Angels Kosice and Ostrava was postponed as Good Angels participated in Euroleague Final Eight MBK Ruzomberok blew BK SOUZ Cassovia Kosice away in a two-game-fight. BAT decides Good Angels Kosice has to pay Iveta Salkauske 41.250 EUR- Feb.19, 2013  (by *AddMe)

Basketball Arbitral Trinubal (BAT) published details on case Iveta Salkauske, Martin v/ BC Good Angels Kosice and decided that the club should pay the player 41. 250 EUR as a compensation for unpaid salaries. Salkauske signed with Good Angels Kosice at the beginning of season 2011/2012, but left the team in November as the club hadn't been paying her full salary during several months [read more]

Slovak teams achieved three victories in the first round of Middle European League. MBK Ruzomberok triumphed in PEAC-PECS by 22 points. Good Angels Kosice outscored DKSK Miskolc 81:59 and Piestanske Cajky won after a hard-fought encounter in the game against HAT-AGRO UNI Gyor. Samorin suffered their first defeat in the MEL.
