Mike Sloan

Michael Davis seached to find anything positive about the way the GIE Morrow Disciples played against the Southern Generals on Sunday night. The Disciples lost to the Generals in a game every bit as ugly as the 107-93 final score indicated. Disciples star Jermaine Barnes (6'5''-G/F-82, agency: Low Country Sports, college: Atlanta Christian) attempted to play with a nasty stomach bug, but the entire team played with no energy and fire. The Disciples have been hit with the injury bug along with sickness. Derrick Stroud (6'8''-F/C-75, college: Indiana St.) (broken foot), Demetrice Williams (6'3''-G-80, college: S.Alabama) (Hamstring) and Jarvis Releford (6'7''-F-80, college: Ft.Valley St.) (Personal issues) are all out with injures and Barnes with a virus. And the guys who hadnt been or injured were just all out of sink. Meanwhile, the Generals left the game feeling as though they had turned a corner. Until Sunday, they had lost there first game to the Atlanta Assault, a game that should have been won.

Michael Sloan's (6'5''-G/F-84, college: Clayton St.) high flying, one-handed jam highlighted his 30-point night and led the Southern Generals to the the best record in the UBA (5-1), 107-93 over the GIE Morrow Disciples on Sunday. George Akpele (6'9''-F, college: Grambling St.) scored 15 and Garrison Johnson (6'5''-G-88, agency: Strategic Sports) added 12 points as the Generals broke open a close game in the third quarter tofinish off the wounded Disciples. The Disciples, who have lost 2 of there last 3 games have the second-best record in the UBA (Southern C.), offered little resistance to Sloan, Akpele, Johnson, as the Generals took over the game early in the 4th. Jermaine Barnes attempted to help his club by subing in the third doing his best MJ inpersonation, but it wasnt enough. Barnes scored 15 points in the quarter and seem to bring the Disciples back but Michael Sloan finished the Disicples off with a 13-point final quarter and the win.

For the Disicples William Belton (6'1''-G-84, college: Wofford) and Jermaine Dailey (6'8''-F-86, agency: SportsList Inc., college: Ill.-Chicago) were the standouts. Belton posted a career best 28 points as Dailey posted yet another double double with 28 points and 12 rebounds. 'We just have to get healthy', said Michael Davis . We are missing three starters, we cant win that way. I take my hat off to Sloan and the Generals, they are a fine ball club.

The Disciples and Generals will face off again December 20th at Morrow High School. The Disciples will return there starter and hope to get the season back on track.
